As part of the 8.6 km Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension project, McNally-Kiewit-Aecon was awarded the southern contract involving construction of twin 2.6 km tunnels using two owner procured 6.12m diameter Lovat (now Caterpillar) EPB machines.
Team Mixing Technologies Inc. was awarded the contract to provide a single Bi-Component (A/B type) grout plant to feed both TBM’s. A piston pump arrangement was selected based on initial grout mix specifications, however, after extensive mix design testing by Team Mixing, a more fluid and pumpable grout mix was adopted. The new mix required less pumping pressures and resulted in significant raw material cost savings to the contractor.
Daily batch logs from the plant are uploaded to Team’s secure server for retrieval by site personnel from any computer with internet access.
