Tunnelling Annulus, Bi-Component Grout Testing

Team Mixing has extensive knowledge and expertise in the design and performance of bi-component grouts (see technical papers).  Team Mixing’s laboratory and test colloidal mixer are available for the testing and development of mix designs.  Certified equipment is used and ASTM standards are adhered to.  Various mix designs are done varying the water cement ratio, and, if appropriate, additive loading, in collaboration with the client.  The following ASTM standards, at a minimum, are be followed:

  • ASTM C109 Test Method for Compressive Strength of Hydraulic Cement Motors
  • ASTM C494, Specification for Chemical Admixtures for Concrete
  • ASTM C939 – 10 Standard Test Method for Flow of Grout (Flow Cone Method)
  • ASTM C940, Expansion and Bleeding of Freshly Mixed Grouts
  • ASTM C942 Test Method for Compressive Strength of Grouts
  • ASTM D2166 Standard Test Method for Unconfined Compressive Strength of Cohesive Soil

Other standards can be adopted as required by the client.  Testing is performed to optimize viscosity, bleed, gel time and compressive strengths.  Customer ingredients are used to accurately predict in-field performance and costing.

For these tests, 3 samples each would be made for testing at 1 hr, 4 hr, 24 hr, 7 days and 28 days and reports on the average compressive strength, bleed, viscosity and gel time for each mix design are provided.
